Little Edge Threads | For Your Fashionable Kid

May 16, 2017 By Amy West

As you know my kiddos take to their stylish ways naturally. I’m constantly getting compliments on their latest fashion and I always respond that I’m sure my kids are way more stylish than I am. In fact, I usually run my looks by Sienna just to make sure I’m still in the cool zone (which I’m prob not since I actually used the phrase “cool zone” in a sentence). It’s no surprise that Sienna in particular was super excited to work with Little Edge Threads on our latest collaboration. She thoughtfully browsed through the looks on their website and choose some outstanding designs from this trendy online children’s boutique. Read on to see what she choose.

Although our garments for this collaboration were received at no cost, the words and opinions in this blog endorsement are my own. Thanks for supporting the awesome brands that make Amy West Travel possible.

Affordable Boutique Fashion

Sienna’s first choice was this Fallin for Floral Tunic which rings in at a reasonable $26! Folks that’s less than some pieces I find at Target. I love that these unique boutique designs are priced so affordably! We have been stopped multiple times by moms and kids desperate to find out where we got this one. It’s a scene stealer for sure. Now if only they had one in my size!

Now Trending | The Modern Child

Historically speaking, children have always been dressed like their parents. Somewhere in the last century, something happened and children’s wear got weird. Personally, I’m not a fan of cartoon characters on t-shirts, but usually I let me kids lead the way with their own personal style. Fortunately, they seem to lean towards looks similar to moms and I couldn’t be more pleased. When I saw Little Edge Threads edgy designs I was smitten! Here is London in a super chic gingham Frill + Flannel Tunic which works well in transitional seasons.

Make a Statement
My kids have plenty to say when it comes to expressing themselves stylishly. Sienna loves to wear girly dresses with a unique twist, and don’t worry, she isn’t afraid to play hard in them. When she saw this Rock til You Drop dress she had to have it! Again, so many compliments on this one, and you can tell she feels great in it.

The Residence at Comstock Wines | Experience Wine Country Like a Local

May 5, 2017 By Amy West

Experience Wine Country Like a Local

Picture yourself in a place that’s as comfortable as home, surrounded by sprawling vineyards and rolling hills. A place where time seems to slow down, and life’s simplest pleasures are yours for the taking. That place is The Residence at Comstock Wines. Situated in the most charming corner of Sonoma wine country, Healdsbug, California is an eclectic little town full of art, culture, five star cuisine, and the friendliest folk you’ll find on the West Coast. Our recent visit to wine country, and Comstock Winery’s Residence, had us smitten with the region, and ready to return year after year.

Double Queen Suite at The Residence at Comstock Wines

Modern Luxury

The Residence is a place that isn’t simply seen, it’s felt. Surrounded by 17 acres of pristine vineyard, this luxurious home has a sense of place all it’s own. As serene as it is sophisticated, you’ll feel instantly at ease in this spacious vacation rental. The Residence exhibits modern luxury at it’s best with tastefully appointed design elements from the full chef’s kitchen, media room loft, open hall, and the four established suites. All four suites come complete with fireplaces and private ensuites, which include a massive soaker tub and walk in shower. At the Residence it’s clear that every detail is important including fresh flowers, fully stocked breakfast, free wifi, and of course, a tasting room in your front yard.

Relax in style in the large open hall.

Make a Memory

The beauty of staying on a vineyard in wine country is your ability to immerse yourself in the sensual experience of making wine. Breathe in the scent of the Earth, see the reflection of dew on a grape leaf at sunrise, hear the sounds of nature all around, and feel the vibration and energy of a working vineyard at it’s finest. Steps away from where you rest, you’ll find Comstock’s head quarters. Tour Comstock’s operation and see where the grapes are crushed, fermented, and aged. Chat with Comstock’s widely respected wine maker Chris Russi, and discover his philosophy behind the elegant vintages he brings into fruition. Then, step into the tasting room and sip the final product. In that moment the circle is complete. From the vineyard to your tastebuds, nothing could be sweeter.

Part of the Family

The Comstock family is intimately involved in every operation of the vineyard, and oh how it has grown since it’s conceptualization in 2002 when owners Bob and Sandy grew their first grapes. As a guest of the Residence you have the privilege of experiencing a family vineyard at it’s heart, and explore a region of wine country praised for it’s diversity. Indeed Comstock is located within miles of some of the finest appellations in the region including Dry Creek Valley where it is located, Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, and the Russian River Valley. As esteemed members of this community, the Comstock team can create a fantastic itenerary for you to experience as you explore the surrounding vineyards. As valued guests of Comstock, it’s like experiencing the region as a local.

Enjoy Comstock Wines. Available to purchase online.

After our trip was complete, we returned to the East Coast, and the case of wine we shipped home from Comstock arrived. Drinking a bottle of Chardonnay on a sunny afternoon in Florida, we were transported. Not only were we making a new memory together over a bottle we enjoyed on our getaway, we were also reliving a memory made during our perfect escape to Comstock. That my friends is simply priceless.

When it comes to vacation time, American’s notoriously carry the worst reputation for making it a priority. Too many of us let the stressors of this world pile up like the paper work on our desk that still needs filing. This year make a promise to yourself. It’s your time. Your turn to escape, unwind, and listen to that inner voice inside that’s telling you to let it all go, and just be you. So what are you waiting for? It’s your turn to book a stay at Comstock’s luxurious Residence. A place where you’re part of the family, and a one of a kind chance to make wine country your own.

Until then…

Enjoy the Journey

The Sweetest Little Eyelet Dress

April 27, 2017 By Amy West

As long as I could remember I’ve always been a girl who loves dresses. Put me in the sunshine with an airy little dress and I’m a happy camper. That’s why when I spotted this little eyelet number at Anthropologie recently, I was completely smitten.

About the Fit
I love the shape of this dress. Perfectly flirty but not so short you are concerned about the breeze. The sleeve design is versatile enough to wear full or off the shoulder which is so on trend right now. It’s fully lined (which is a must for me) so no worries about the sunlight shining through your unmentionables or having to acquire the perfectly shaped slip. Bonus! This also comes in red which is darling. I should have just ordered them both…. hmmm maybe I still will.

Style It

I’ve worn this one a bunch and have gone a couple directions with the styling. It looks super cute with a wedge heel and my new fav Boater Hat, but for this shoot I kept it pretty simple with my ballet flats, pale pink choker, classic sunnies, and for a pop of color I dug out my fav yellow tote from last summer. I chose to keep it pretty natural with my makeup going for blush and nude tones.

Wear It
This look is so chic with it’s timeless eyelet and tiny floral print you can really wear it almost anywhere. Perfect for festival season or a lunch date. I’ve worn it to church, and drinks out with friends. It definitely begs for a sunny picnic on a blanket in the park or the beach.

Leave it to Anthropologie to have yet another dress I couldn’t walk away from. Where do you score your fav chic finds? I’d love to hear more from you in the comments below!
Until then…
Enjoy the Journey!

How to Wear Gingham

April 15, 2017 By Amy West

Gingham
Spring is in the air and so are pretty pastel prints. Chief amongst these is gingham. That iconic, checkerboard print most commonly seen in blue and red. Personally, I love gingham. As a teenager I had my bedroom in Kentucky decked out in blue gingham and daisies. I have the best memories in that gabled room overlooking my Dad’s farm. When it comes to incorporating this timeless plaid into your wardrobe, though, things can get tricky. How do you wear gingham without looking like you are wearing a table cloth? Well I’m so glad you asked. Here are a few of my style tips for rocking this statement making trend.

Opt for Structured Garments

I love a casual swing dress as much as the next girl, but for me, it’s not a choice I’d make if it involves gingham. Choose tailored and structured designs that compliment the body to avoid the more unflattering side of wearing a checkered print. I love this off the shoulder dress from Anthropologie because it’s made in a flattering A-line with a tie at the waist to highlight my shape and a trendy off the shoulder ruffle to draw the eye upwards to my shoulders and face.

Choose Your Accessories Wisely

I found it tempting to pair this with a striking red block heel, but decided to shy away from them as it would make this outfit appear more like a costume (think Dorothy) than everyday wear. Instead I opted for trendy nude wedge heels and a neutral bag. I added in a chocker, round tortoise shell sunnies, and a boater hat to make the complete ensemble feel modern and appropriate for brunch, a festival, or picnic in the park with the kiddos.

Accents and Embellishments

For this fun Beach Cruising look I choose a structured top with delicate embroidery as an embellishment. I paired it with pops of yellow to contrast with the blue. Neutral ballet flats finished the look along with the same straw boater hat. On the flip side, if you are still nervous about incorporating gingham into your wardrobe, maybe try using it as the accent instead. Maybe think about shoes, clutches, and hair accesories utilizing different colors of gingham as a fun pop.

This print may seem all too trendy, but it’s truly an iconic statement that will continue to evolve and return to the fashion scene time and time again. Have fun with it and see what creative ways you can showcase gingham in your own stylish way.
Until then…
Enjoy the Journey!
